- Our flash hole deburring tool has been upgraded! The main improvement over our popular original flash hole deburring tool is the cutter is now made of carbide! The previous tool had a hardened tool steel cutter that performed well but after time could lose its edge. This cutter will last a lifetime! We went to extra steps in working with our tool maker to have a custom carbide cutter based off our previous design. It is designed to not only provide a perfect chamfer on the inside of the flash hole, but it uniforms the flash hole diameter as well. The pilot is sized .002” larger than the actual flash hole diameter. This will uniform each flash hole to the same size to provide consistency in ignition. Cutters are available in standard (.082” flash hole) or small (.062” flash hole). Most cartridges will use the .082” cutter, but the small flash hole (.062”) version is used in cartridges such as the 6mmBR family, 6PPC, 6/6.5×47 Lapua, 308 Palma. 6/6.5 Creedmoor in Lapua Brass, and 6.5 Grendel to name a few). There is no depth stop needed with this tool. It will stop cutting the chamfer after a certain point. Do not use excessive force with this tool. Just firm steady pressure will do the trick. When using this tool under power use a slow speed. All it takes is a quick “kiss” of the flash hole to cut a perfect chamfer. A little pressure may be needed at first to get the pilot to cut the flash hole diameter, but it cuts in a snap.Another improvement in the Gen II Flash Hole Deburring/Uniforming Tool is that the ability to easily change between calibers. This is a simple process. These are not a fixed “dedicated” to caliber tool. Simply un-screw the cutter shaft off of the stainless hexed power adapter, pull off the caliber bushing from the shaft and replace with another caliber.
For those who have our Gen I flash hole deburring tool you can swap out the old cutter shaft with a new one for an upgraded tool! Some of our original flash hole tools may have been loctited in place. Simply heat up the stainless body with a hot air gun or similar tool, and carefully remove the original shaft. Replace the shaft with the new one.
The standard length flash hole tool will work on cases from .22 Hornet Up to .338 Lapua Magnum. The Long shaft Flash hole tool is for .338 Lapua Magnum length cases up to the .408 Cheytac family of cases. Caliber bushings are available in .22 to .416 calibers.
