Adjusting Your Gray Ops .223 Magazine

Proper magazine adjustment is critical for reliable feeding. Follow the steps below to correctly fit your magazine to your rifle.

1. Verify the Firearm is Unloaded

Ensure both the firearm and magazine are completely unloaded before making any adjustments.

2. Adjust the Magazine Catch

Using a 3/32″ Allen wrench, turn the adjustment screw located in the oval slot on the side of the magazine.

If you are not getting the full range of adjustment from the magazine catch, remove the catch screw and verify that the oval washer is properly aligned with the oval slot before reinstalling the screw.

3. Set the Proper Magazine Height

Adjust the magazine so it sits as high in the action as possible without the bolt contacting the feed lips during operation.

To check the fit:

  • Insert the magazine into the rifle.
  • Slowly cycle the bolt while paying close attention to ensure it does not contact the feed lips.
  • If the bolt lightly contacts the feed lips—or stops completely—the magazine is positioned too high.
  • Lower the magazine slightly and repeat the test until the bolt cycles freely without contacting the feed lips.

4. Function Test

Remove the firing pin from the bolt and use dummy cartridges only to cycle several rounds through the action. Make small adjustments as necessary until feeding is smooth and reliable.

5. Check the Rifle’s Magazine Latch

If your rifle or chassis has an adjustable magazine latch, it may also require adjustment. The magazine and magazine latch work together, so achieving proper feeding may require fine-tuning both components.

Important: Magazine height is one of the most critical factors affecting feeding reliability. Make small adjustments and test frequently until the optimal position is achieved. Never perform function testing with live ammunition.
